English translation of family register
English translation of family register

Old, handwritten family registers written vertically often use variant kana or cursive script, and are written using unique family register terminology. Many people are troubled by not being able to read their family registers, even after going to the trouble of obtaining them from Japan.
For people like this, we provide English translations of family registers. Even when Japanese people read old family registers, they often cannot understand the meaning as is. This is because the family registers are written using unique family register terminology.
For this reason, we rewrite the text in the family register so that it is easy to understand in Japanese and makes sense, and then translate it into English.

Delivery Format
We use a different template for each family register format, and enter the translation into it. Under current law, there are four types of family register formats that can be obtained.
The translation will be delivered as a PDF attachment via email.
Translation Fee
Approximately ¥3,300 to ¥5,500 per page.
Some family registers are a single page, while others span 10 or more pages.
Please send us an image or PDF of the family register and we will provide a quote after reviewing it.
Notes
It may not be possible to translate all the characters; sometimes only around 90% of the text can be translated.
This is because older handwritten family registers can have faded or crushed characters that are difficult to read.
